Understanding the Board of Assessment Appeals in Fulton County

Every year in Fulton County, an assessment is made as to the current value of your home. This is then used to determine how much you will ultimately pay in property taxes.

Obviously, if you disagree with this value it is in your own best interest to appeal it - as you could potentially save a significant amount of money in the process.

Doing so requires you to go directly through the Board of Assessment Appeals, which itself is a process that requires you to keep a few key things in mind.

The Fulton County Board of Assessment Appeals: What You Need to Know

In Fulton County, you have two main methods for appealing your property taxes: online filing and manual filing.

The benefit of online filing is that it allows the Board of Assessment Appeals to both receive and process your appeal faster. You also don't have to run the risk of your supporting documentation being lost should you send it in through USPS.

Likewise, you can also file your appeal manually. You can either hand deliver or mail your completed form, along with all supporting documentation, to 235 Peachtree Street, NE, Suite 1200, Atlanta, Georgia 30303. As is true with the online form, you'll need to specify information like your property address, your appeal method, your own estimate for the value of your property as of January 1 of the year in question, and similar types of information.

It's absolutely not required, but if you're going to be mailing in your appeal form you should always pay for certified mail or, at the very least, some type of proof of delivery. This is just to mitigate risk from certain types of issues that may arise from the Postal Service moving forward.

Finally, understand that the Board of Assessment Appeals in Fulton County does not accept any appeals via either email or fax.
