The Cobb County Board of Tax Assessors, as the name suggests, is the group of people who are responsible for determining the value of all taxable property in Cobb County on an annual basis. Members are appointed by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners and always serve four year terms.

One of the most important things to understand is that if you get an Assessment Notice in the mail that you disagree with, it's absolutely in your best interest to file an appeal. You will be able to do so by contacting the Cobb County Assessment Appeals Board directly - something that itself requires you to keep a few key things in mind.

Appealing Taxes in Cobb County: An Overview

It's essential to understand that appeals in Cobb County can only actually be filed in response to an Assessment Notice - meaning that you have to wait until you get one in the mail in order to begin the process. From that moment, you'll have 45 days to file an appeal - something you can do both online and by mailing or hand delivering the appropriate form to their office.

If you choose to file your appeal online, first head to the Assessment Appeals Board's website and use the "Property Search" tool to find your specific property. At that point, you'll be able to click the button labeled "Appeal to the Board of Assessors" and follow the instructions listed on screen.

The Assessment Appeals Board considers the online filing option to be a courtesy, however - it's there for your convenience. They always recommend that you file early in the event that there are any system issues or other technical glitches that you might have to deal with. Under virtually no circumstances will they extend the deadline for your appeal, so get everything in as soon as you can to avoid any delays to the process.

If you choose to hand deliver or mail your appeal, you can do so by sending it to:

  • P.O. Box 649
  • Marietta, GA, 30061-0649.

Note that faxing your appeal in is not an option at this time.

Working with the Cobb County Assessment Appeals Board can be a difficult and time-consuming process - which is why we're happy to do so for you on your behalf. Appealing your taxes is always the right choice to help you pay less, and with the right partner by your side you'll be able to enjoy all of the benefits of this process with as few of the potential downsides as possible.
