Fulton County Tax Bill Errors

Attention Fulton County Taxpayer! The Fulton County Tax Commissioner's office has mailed incorrect tax bills. It's not that the taxable value is wrong, or the tax rate. It's the calculation of the taxable value by the tax rate that is incorrect on many tax bills. Of course, the mistake tends to increase the amount of property tax that is due.

As we deal exclusively with property tax appeals the only time we have seen these errors is on temporary tax bills. When you are in appeal you are billed at 85% of the current year value or last year's value, whichever is lower. This is temporary until the appeal is resolved.

Regardless, it pays to check your tax bill for accuracy. The problem we have seen is where the Net Assessment is multiplied by the Net Rate to produce a Net Tax. In all cases where we see errors the Net Tax does not equal Net Assessment multiplied by Net Rate, and the Net Tax is overstated.

If you find that your tax bill has these issues go to the Fulton County Tax Commissioner website and look up your tax due there. We have found the Tax Commissioner has corrected the tax due on the website, but it remains to be seen whether they issue new tax bills to correct those with errors. Fulton County spends an enormous amount of money remailing assessment notices and tax bills to correct errors they have made.
